What is a master of wine?

“Accreditation as a wine expert is a rare feat”

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) web site reveals the IMW exists to promote the highest level of educational achievement for the wine industry, culminating in the internationally recognised qualification of Master of Wine (MW).

As a corporate entity it organises all aspects of the Master of Wine examination and education programme, runs tastings, events programmes and provides membership services to the 264 MWs from 20 different nationalities, living in 22 countries and information and access to specialist advice for the wine industry in general.

To put the MW in more contemporary terms, the IMW has been running for about the same duration as the American and Russian space programs yet more astronauts have returned from space than people have been successful at passing the IMW exam.

Rob was the 3rd Australian and one of the few Australian born to pass the IMW exams in 1992.
